New Yorkers love to\u00a0get away\u00a0<\/b>from the city, especially on long weekends during the summer, but if you didn\u2019t make plans, it\u2019s not too late to have a fun three-day weekend. There a lots of interesting places to explore within the five boroughs of New York City, and there are plenty of easy day trips outside of the city that don\u2019t require finding a \u201clast minute\u201d \u00a0car rental.<\/div>\n
\n

Here are five ideas for outdoor excersions that will feel like mini-vacations.<\/p>\n

  1. Explore Manhattan\u2019s Northern Tip<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

    You can start by\u00a0catching\u00a0the\u00a0A train<\/a>\u00a0to 207th<\/sup>\u00a0Street. From there you can visit\u00a0Fort Tryon Park<\/a>. The park offers beautiful Hudson River views on winding paths. This is also where you can find visit\u00a0The Cloisters<\/a>. You can then walk to\u00a0Inwood Hill Park<\/a>, which offers hiking trails with old growth trees. There is also a Nature Center there where you can learn more about the local ecology. Sometimes there are additional activities sponsored by the Parks Department, such as kayaking.<\/p>\n

    Along the route from Fort Tryon Park to Inwood Hill Park there are other attractions like the\u00a0Dykeman Farmhouse Museum<\/a>\u00a0\u2013 the only remaining Dutch colonial house in New York (circa 1764). There are several good restaurants in the neighborhood. I would recommend\u00a0Indian Road Cafe<\/a>\u00a0and\u00a0Bocaditos Bistro<\/a>.<\/p>\n

    Inwood Hill Park<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

    Adjacent to Inwood Hill Park is a small park, Isham Park. In Isham Park, you will find\u00a0Bruce\u2019s Garden<\/a>. This is beautiful community flower garden named for Bruce Reynolds, a local policeman who was killed on 9\/11.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
