Coming home on the 1 train, a robust gray haired woman got on \u2013 along with many others \u2013 at 66th Street. I offered her my seat, but she said in a native accent as thick as our own, \u201cNo thanks I’ve been sitting for three hours.\u201d She looked at my better-half, \u201cWhy don’t you offer it to him?\u201d
\nI said, \u201cI tried, but he’s been sitting too.\u201d
\nShe noticed his Playbill in hand and asked, \u201cWhat did you see?\u201d
\nMe, \u201cWaiting for Godot. Patrick Stewart. Ian McKellan.\u201d
\n\u201cHow was it?\u201d
\n\u201cIt was a preview,\u201d I said diplomatically.
\nThe better half shrugged in agreement.
\n\u201cI just came from the Met.\u201d
\n\u201cWhat opera?\u201d
\n\u201cRigoletto.\u201d
\n“Oh, the\u00a0Vegas\u00a0Rigoletto<\/a>.\u201d I said.
\nShe did an eye-roll. She blamed Peter Gelb. As we headed uptown there was conversation about the unfortunate\u00a0Eugene Onegin<\/a>, as well as some other new productions under Gelb’s tenure, including the\u00a0Tosca<\/a> which she saw and we are going to. \u00a0Her theater recommendation was\u00a012th Night<\/a> with Mark Rylance \u2013 so we’re going. She mentioned $26 rush tix. Always a good thing.
\nGod, I love this city.<\/p>\n

And btw\u00a0Godot\u00a0and\u00a0No Man’s Land<\/a> two plays in\u00a0repetoire\u00a0have rush tix going for $30 each including facility fee (cash or credit).Tix may be available at\u00a0TKTS<\/a> as well, but rush is probably a better deal. They start selling them at 10:00 am day of the performance at the box office. \u00a0I got there at around 8, but could have come later as the line never got very long. \u00a0As for\u00a0the opera<\/a>, that’s another cheap date for the savvy.<\/p>\n
